Nothing moves faster than summertime. One minute you’re enjoying the sunny season, the next you’re knee-deep in school schedules, work projects, and after-school sports. With so much going on, it’s easy to feel like fitness should slide right off your to-do list, but that’s usually when you need it most.

Exercise gives you energy, sharpens your focus, and keeps you steady when life gets crazy. The good news? You don’t have to overhaul your entire life. Small, steady habits can fit into the rhythm you already have, and fall is the perfect season to start.

Why Fall Is the Perfect Time to Reset Your Routine

There’s something about fall that naturally feels like a reset. The air cools, the days settle into more predictable rhythms, and the start-of-school energy makes everything feel structured again.

Fall fitness can be easier to maintain than summer, when travel, vacations, and long, hot days throw off routines. By taking advantage of cooler mornings, steadier schedules, and that back-to-school momentum, you can prioritize wellness without feeling like you’re squeezing it into an impossible calendar.

Time-Saving Strategies for Busy Parents and Professionals

Making room for fitness doesn’t have to mean blocking off two hours a day. The truth is, the smaller, consistent choices often matter most. Even 20–30 minutes of movement can give you the energy boost you need to power through a long day.

Some simple ways to fit exercise and healthy habits into a packed schedule:

  1. Short workouts count.A quick strength circuit, a yoga flow, or a brisk lunchtime walk can be just as effective as a long session.
  2. Put it on the calendar.Treat workouts like meetings. If it’s scheduled, you’re more likely to protect that time.
  3. Prep food in batches.Chop vegetables ahead of time, grill extra chicken, or make overnight oats so weekday meals don’t feel like a scramble.
  4. Use hidden pockets of time.Early mornings before the day gets away from you, or a lunch break that doubles as a reset, can be surprisingly effective.

When you make little tweaks, getting more fitness time becomes much easier. These strategies keep family health and wellness on track without demanding more hours than you have to give.

Building Family-Friendly Fitness Habits

One of the easiest ways to stay active during a busy season is to fold fitness into the time you already spend with your family. When movement becomes part of family life, it feels less like another chore and more like fun quality time. Kids also pick up on those habits, seeing exercise as a normal and fun part of everyday living.

Ideas to keep everyone moving and engaged:

  • Make weekends active.Go for a family walk, bike ride, or hike. Even yard games, outdoor chores, or a pickup basketball game count.
  • Cook together.Involve kids in preparing healthy fall meals. Even little ones can wash veggies or help assemble tacos.
  • Keep it playful.Dance in the kitchen, set up an obstacle course in the backyard, or challenge the kids to a push-up contest.
  • Mix it up.Try new activities so everyone stays interested. Bowling one week, a pumpkin patch walk the next.

When fitness feels fun, it stops being another “task” and becomes something your family looks forward to. Those moments build healthy habits that can last long after the season ends.

Leveraging ACAC’s Classes, Programs, and Childcare

Of course, sometimes you need the space to focus fully on yourself! And that’s where acac comes in.

  • Group fitness and small group training sessions give you energy, variety, and community all at once.
  • On-site childcare means parents don’t have to choose between their workout and their kids’ safety.
  • can help with goals and keep you on track. Having a coach who knows your goals and checks in on your progress can be the difference between “I’ll try tomorrow” and “I did it today!”

acac is built to support you no matter where you’re starting from or how full your schedule already feels.

Staying Consistent Through the Season

The biggest secret to lasting change isn’t intensity or how hard you work out, it’s consistency. Set goals that fit your life instead of overwhelming it. Maybe that’s two workouts a week to start, or swapping one takeout night for a family cooked meal.

Let’s make fall the season of fresh starts. Our team can help you find your rhythm with classes, programs, and a supportive community that makes it all seem doable.

Claim your for $10 and see how simple, consistent steps this season can set you up for a healthier, more energized you.

Is your child ready to dive into the wonderful world of swimming? At acac, we have programs dedicated to swimmers of all ages with swim safety at the core of our curriculum. Our classes and instructors will help your child build foundational water safety skills and confidence that will last a lifetime.

Let’s examine this essential skill and explore what safety swim lessons entail, their benefits, and the outstanding programs offers.

What are Swim Safety Lessons?

Swim safety lessons combine the joy of swimming with the assurance of safety, ensuring every dip in the water is safe and enjoyable for your child. In swim safety lessons, children are educated on recognizing potential dangers in and around the water, learning how to react in emergencies, and mastering self-rescue techniques. For your child, these lessons are the key to building confidence in their abilities, both in and outside of the pool.

The Importance of Mastering the Basics

The old saying: “walk before you run” also applies to the swimming pool! Children who understand foundational swim safety skills, such as floating, have the confidence to take on more complex swimming strokes as they continue to learn. After completing the basics, your child will be well on their way to a lifelong love of swimming and exercise.

Key Components of Swim Safety

Swim safety is all about building a mindset that water safety comes first, no matter your age or swim experience. Learn about these key components to help contribute and reinforce a safe environment for everyone.

Supervision and the Buddy System

Adult supervision is non-negotiable for young swimmers. Ensuring there is an active participant supervising the pool or active play in open water will help reinforce good water safety principles with even the littlest swimmers. Children should also never swim alone. Having a swim buddy, whether a parent or friend, can serve as a quick support system in case of concern or emergencies.

Floating and Treading Water

Foundational water safety skills are crucial to young children being safe in the water. At a young age, kids should be taught how to roll onto their backs when in the water if they fall in or jump in. Being comfortable with floating is a life saving technique. As they grow, our young swimmers can learn about kicking, arm strokes, and even treading water. Staying afloat, and having fun doing it, and can a world of a difference.

Confidence Building and Positive Attitudes

Swimming is an activity that should foster curiosity, exploration and ultimately, fun! Keeping a cheery, upbeat, and positive attitude around young swimmers helps them know that water play is a safe space where they can learn and grow. Encouraging their skill development in a positive and energetic environment will contribute to their own confidence in their water.

Know the Limits

Before beginning water play, ensure you know every participants’ swimming skills. Are your little swimmers able to float, hold their breath, doggie paddle, and so on? Know their limits so you can guide them to know how to assess when they are too tired or potentially unsafe. Making sure they stay within their comfort zone and reinforcing their growing swim skills ensure safety is at the forefront of any water activities.

Use Swim Safety Equipment

While our littlest swimmers will not need much equipment at the get go, developing swimmers may want additional support as their skills develop. Adding a swim cap or goggles can help with their comfort and confidence levels while they explore new water activities. If you expand your water play to open water, it is advised to put your little ones in a certified life jacket for added safety.

While these are only a few tips to keep in mind, they are critical to fostering a supportive, positive, and safe environment for your little swimmers. If you need added support in swim basics and safety, consider swimming lessons with a certified instructor.

Certified Instructors and Swimming Programs

A certified swim instructor is critical for children entering swimming lessons. At acac, our swim instructors are not just fans of swimming; they are trained educators equipped with the knowledge to teach children of different age groups and skill levels. Our instructors play a vital role in their safety, skill development, and overall positive experience with water. We create a supportive and safe learning environment, ensuring that each lesson is a step towards your child becoming a confident and responsible swimmer.

acac Dolphin Swim School

Our Dolphin Swim School is the ideal learn-to-swim program for novice swimmers ages 3+. The eight-week program meets once a week for 30-minute classes designed to help students develop a foundation of swimming skills in a child-centered environment. Group sizes typically range from three to six participants. Our instructors are trained in the Starfish Aquatic International Swim School (SAISS) curriculum, focusing on creating safer swimmers by developing swim and safety skills.

Jump Into acac‘s Swim School!

The Ber’s Bowl Story

Ber (“Bear”) is the 19 year old son of acac Midlothian Group Exercise Director Amber van der Meer. He is an extremely special, loving energetic and curious young man who has won the hearts of everyone at acac and in this community.

In 2007, after Ber’s 4th birthday, family and friends were devastated to learn that he was diagnosed with Stage-4 Neuroblastoma, a type of children’s cancer. Since then, Ber has proven to be quite a warrior, fighting through numerous surgeries, radiation, chemo, and other difficult treatments. Each year, acac has raised money through Ber’s Bowl, initially to help fund treatments for Ber and in later years to for pediatric cancer research.

The kids are home—now what?

Schools are closed and many parents have adopted a new role: teacher. This is uncharted territory for many and can be overwhelming as you navigate working from home, social distancing, and mental sanity.

Here are some tips to help you and your children adjust to this new routine and stay engaged:

1. Create a schedule.

It is important to have a schedule and daily routine that suits the needs of everyone in the family. If you have more than one child, try to align their schedules so you are not feeling pulled in too many directions. Have your child(ren) help you create the schedule so they feel invested in their activities and post the schedule where they can easily see it to help build excitement.

2. Have fun with it.

Create a theme for each week that carries throughout your activities. Have your kids help you come up with ideas—the more buy in you have from them, the more success you will have teaching! Try to pick a theme you can support with resources and items from around your home.

Some fun theme ideas: shapes, colors, transportation, animals, gardening, family, space, water, Dr. Seuss, spring.

3. Make space to be active.

This is a great time to teach your kids about a healthy lifestyle. Schedule “gym class” each day and incorporate kid-friendly exercises to prioritize movement.

Here are some exercises to try:

  • Patty Cake Push-Ups: Face a partner and lower into a plank position. Keeping a strong core, lower your bodies to the ground. Once you have pushed back up and arms are fully extended, reach out and tap the opposite hand of the parent or child across from you, alternating hands with each repetition
  • Jump Squats with High Fives: Stand toe to toe with a partner. Bend your knees as if sitting back in an invisible chair. Then straighten knees and jump. When legs are fully extended, high five the parent or child across from you with both hands, arms extended in the air.
  • Frog Jumps: With core tight, lower into an imaginary chair, as low as possible or until fingertips can touch ground. Keeping knees behind toes, push up and jump forward, landing with knees bent.
  • Supermans: Lie flat on the floor, face down, with spine in a straight line. Gently raise the legs and arms simultaneously, squeezing the glutes so your body forms an elongated “U” shape. Hold for several seconds.
  • Butterfly pose: Sitting up straight, bend your knees and bring your feet together. Allow your knees to fall to the side. Sit up tall and take a few deep breaths before releasing the pose.
  • Snake pose: Lie flat on the ground, face down, with hands under your shoulders. Gently raise your shoulders and head off of the ground feeling a stretch in the lower back. Take a few deep breaths before releasing the pose.
  • Elephant pose: Standing up straight, bend at the hips so your hands reach the ground. Clasp your hands together at the bottom to form the “trunk of the elephant”. Take a few deep breaths before releasing the pose.
  • Downward-facing dog: Starting from an all fours position, shoulders over wrists and hips over knees,  curl the toes under and lift the tailbone. Press the hips back to form a V with your body. Relax your head and neck and take a few deep breaths before releasing the pose.

4. Make a masterpiece.

Set up an arts and crafts area where your children can make a mess and stretch their creative muscles. Give them time to create without a goal in mind, allowing for exploration and fun. Use recyclables as supplies—empty cereal boxes, toilet paper rolls, glass jars.

5. Get some fresh air.

Spending time in nature and soaking up the sunshine is a great way to boost your immune system, stay active, and brighten your mood. Allow time for unstructured play outside but also find ways to incorporate nature into your learning center. Some outdoor activities that are educational, creative, and active include: wildlife observation, a scavenger hunt, nature walk, build something out of sticks, weed pulling, cloud observation, nature maze.

Now more than ever it is important to take care of yourself and be sure to fill up your cup. Taking time to slow down, focus, and redirect your thoughts is proven to aid physical, mental, and emotional well-being. As you craft your weekly schedule, be sure to set aside time for yourself to

acac would like to help our families fill the void in education this fall that the pandemic has presented for your children. We know that we cannot replicate the experience of being in school full time but we want to help families that need a trusted partner to assist with their Elementary and Middle School student’s education. We have been actively developing our plan to partner with you and to stay responsive to the changing expectations you are all receiving from your children’s schools and teachers.

Informed by our medical director, architect, and academic consultant; our educational support program is designed to exceed state guidelines so that we may safely provide space for your children to engage in their remote learning plans while leveraging the incredible facilities at acac West Chester and acac Eagleview. Based on your survey feedback and the additional inquiries we’ve made, we understand that you are looking for a teammate to manage the daily demands of academic work and distance learning that your children’s traditional school programs are offering. At the same time, you are looking for sustained engagement that will offer your children interaction, creativity, physical exercise, and socio-emotional development.

In addition to the excellence you’ve come to expect from acac, our educational support program will offer:

  • Staggered arrival/pick up times to promote distancing
  • Wellness scans upon arrival
  • Connectivity for your children’s devices
  • Support to navigate synchronous sessions with your children’s teachers
  • Structured time to facilitate schoolwork completion and alleviate evening homework
  • Design and layout to promote safe interaction and personal supplies
  • Daily activities that reinforce developmental acceleration and inspire cognitive stimulation
  • Optional tutoring

To secure space for your children, complete the registration via the link below. We have a very limited capacity. The first 100 registrations will be accepted at acac West Chester. acac Eagleview will accept the first 56 registrations. At that point the program will be full. More capacity may be added at a later date at both locations. If you are not able to register – please email educationsupport@acac.com to be added to the waiting list.

The program will begin at 7:00am and end at 6:00pm. Parents are welcome to pick up their students after their school day ends.

This program will cost $300.00 per week per student for acac members and $330.00 per week for non-members. It will be billed in weekly increments. This is only available as a commitment to the first ten weeks of the school year in order to limit the number of students within the space. The health and safety of everyone is our top priority.

The space at West Chester’s Adventure Central arena will be divided into pods. Each pod will have 12-16 students along with Pod Advisors. Based on CDC guidelines and in consultation with our medical director, pods of students will function independently. When pods transition between spaces, the program schedule ensures that no two groups are in the same space at the same time. Appropriate cleaning and disinfecting procedures are in place throughout the day for our program participants, their pod spaces, and all shared areas.

Thank you for trusting us to team up with you and meet your family’s needs for your children. We look forward to welcoming you and to starting the academic year with purpose and partnership!
